LIFETIME

——

It was when my gold faded to grey

That I first knew I had loved you.

Silence spoke the words we couldn’t say,

And sleepless nights turned the sky anew.

Yet in my dreams, my mind wouldn't stray,

Grounded by the things we could be.

I had loved you in the cruellest way,

‘Cause I thought you’d never need me.

Lockets I buried, covered in rust,

They were taken by passing tides.

But your smile turned me to stardust,

And dried up the oceans I cried.

Danced together with our minds asleep,

That’s when we’d shine the brightest.

And you taught me that I needn’t weep

For my heart to feel the lightest.

Told me stories in crowded rooms,

The secrets only we would hear.

Like endless meadows my heart would bloom,

Fell like petals when you were near.

Through my avalanches, my earthquakes,

You held me, not batting an eye.

Silent, understanding, for my sake,

Thank you. I love you.

I need you here for a lifetime.
