CLOSURE

——

We spoke so casually of the ending

As if destiny would never dare

Drove off the road to change our course

For this fate to remain up in the air.

Can these words speak for themselves

And lay my thoughts on dusty shelves?

Or maybe I pulled the trigger too fast,

Hit you in the dark like a heart attack.

You let me go like you were never holding on

I shatter us apart ‘cause you’re all that I want

If I called your name, say I changed my mind

Would I fear your silence or your response?

It wasn’t what I wanted when I sought closure,

I may only have control when I’m not sober,

At every attempt to regain my composure,

A voice in my head says,

“The greatest thing you’ve ever had is over.”
